In the episode of the drama “He Who Cannot Marry” that aired July 6 under the sub-title “Responsibility and Its Heaviness,” the single man Jae-hee (played by Ji Jin-hee) and the single woman Moon-jung (played by Uhm Jung-hwa) bonded by taking care of a puppy.

He Who Can't Marry

Jae-hee ends up taking care of Yoo-jin’s puppy because she is hospitalized. He makes it clear that he will not do anything else apart from feeding and walking the dog. But he becomes attached to the puppy. At the beginning, he keeps the puppy on the balcony, but later lets it inside his apartment and even unleashes it. The two eventually watch movies and listen to music together.
When he hears from Moon-jung that she has lost the dog, Jae-hee rushes to look for it and roams the streets until it gets dark, trying to find the puppy. He is relieved to learn that Yoo-jin has found the dog, and he doesn’t care about being completely drenched with sweat after hours of searching. Jae-hee, a brusque man who has so far lived in seclusion, finally begins to open up to the outside world.
When Moon-jung says that she never raises living creatures such as animals or plants because they die someday, Jae-hee consoles her by saying, “It’s not your fault that fish or plants die. They die because their time is up.” Later he presents her with an aquarium and a tropical fish. The two gradually open up their hearts to each other after living in their own worlds for a long time.
When Moon-jung says that Jae-hee doesn’t have any energy left for dating women because he is concerned about so many things, Jae-hee says, “I said I would never get married but I never said I would never date a woman.” On Moon-jung’s question whether or not he is willing to go out with a woman, Jae-hee simply gazes at Moon-jung in response.
Ji Jin-hee, who perfectly portrays the brusque bachelor Jae-hee, and Uhm Jung-hwa, who plays the single woman Moon-jung, have received rave reviews from viewers for their acting.
“He Who Cannot Marry” airs every Monday and Tuesday at 9:55 p.m. on KBS TV2.
